Top Schools In Abu Dhabi For 2026

When clients call us about moving to Abu Dhabi, the first question is almost never about the apartment. It is about the school. The capital has quietly built one of the strongest school ecosystems in the region, and where you choose to live now follows where your children get a seat.

Here are the schools we see families shortlist most often, and what each one is genuinely known for on the ground.

1. Cranleigh Abu Dhabi (Saadiyat Island)

The British sister school of Cranleigh in Surrey, set on Saadiyat with its own theatre, swimming pools and equestrian programme. Strong on pastoral care, arts and sport. The waiting list for Year 7 is long, so families often buy on Saadiyat partly to be inside the catchment narrative.

2. Brighton College Abu Dhabi (Bloom Gardens)

Consistently one of the top performing British curriculum schools in the country. Academic results at GCSE and A Level are exceptional, and the headmaster culture is closer to a traditional UK prep and senior school than most rivals in the region.

3. The British School Al Khubairat (BSAK)

The grand dame of British schools in the capital. Not for profit, hugely oversubscribed and a strong feeder into Russell Group universities. Many established expat families choose their neighbourhood specifically to keep the commute short to Al Mushrif.

4. Repton School Abu Dhabi (Rose Campus, Khalifa City)

Repton built on the strength of its Dubai sister school and has quickly become a serious contender. Strong music, sport and a clearly British academic spine.

5. American Community School (ACS)

The benchmark American curriculum school in the city. Accredited, university counselling is excellent and graduates routinely place into top US colleges. Long established and very stable.

6. GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi

A larger American curriculum option, AP heavy, strong sport and a wide co curricular offering. Good fit for families who want the US system without a long waitlist.

7. Aldar Academies (Yas, Al Yasmina, Al Bateen, Pearl)

Worth grouping together because Aldar runs some of the most consistent British curriculum schools in the emirate. Yas in particular has become a default choice for families on Yas Island and Saadiyat.

8. International Community School (ICS)

A long established IB World School in the city, well regarded for its IB Diploma results and a more international student mix than the bigger British names.

9. SABIS International School Abu Dhabi

For families who want a more structured academic environment with frequent testing and a clearly defined progression path. Strong in maths and sciences.

10. Raha International School (Khalifa City)

Full IB continuum from Primary Years through to Diploma. Popular with international families who want continuity if they end up moving on to another IB school abroad.

How to actually choose

Curriculum first, then commute, then community. Decide whether your family is British, American or IB at heart, then look at where on the map you can realistically live without your children spending an hour in traffic each way. Catchment areas are informal in Abu Dhabi but waiting lists are very real, so apply earlier than you think you need to.
