Dubai has more hotels than almost any city on earth, so picking one is genuinely overwhelming. After years of staying in them, hosting clients in them and getting honest feedback from friends who visit, here is the short list I actually recommend, sorted by star rating.
Five star and above
- Burj Al Arab Jumeirah is still the icon. Suites only, butler service, the view from the Skyview Bar at sunset is worth it on its own.
- Atlantis The Royal on Palm Jumeirah is the most photographed hotel in the city for a reason. Resort, restaurants by Heston and Nobu, and the best pool deck in Dubai.
- Bulgari Resort on Jumeira Bay Island is the quiet luxury pick. Marina, private beach, and the calmest five star experience in the city.
- One&Only One Za'abeel sits above the new Link bridge with the world's longest cantilever. Incredible spa and fine dining.
- Four Seasons Resort Jumeirah Beach is the safest five star choice if you want pure beach resort without the theme park feel.
- Armani Hotel Dubai inside Burj Khalifa is the move if you want Downtown and the fountain view from your room.
- Mandarin Oriental Jumeira is my personal favourite for a weekend staycation, beach is excellent and the breakfast is the best in the city.
Four star
- Rove Downtown is the smartest four star in the city, walkable to Dubai Mall, modern rooms, fair price.
- FIVE Palm Jumeirah if you want party energy, beach club and a five star feel at a four star price.
- Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights is great value, big rooms and easy access to old Dubai.
- Media One Hotel in Media City is the long stay favourite for business travellers.
Three star and value
- Rove La Mer Beach is the best three star in the city, on the beach, modern, and well priced.
- Premier Inn Dubai Investments Park for anyone with an early flight from DXB or DWC.
- Citymax Bur Dubai if you want to be near the old town and the metro on a real budget.
