Frequent flyers care about the same things: an excellent seat, dependable service, a network that gets you where you need to be, and a loyalty programme worth the effort. Here is the honest ranking for 2026.
Emirates
The UAE's flag carrier remains one of the best in the world. The A380 first class private suites with shower spas, the new Premium Economy and the upgraded business class on refurbished aircraft set the standard. Dubai hub access, generous baggage and best in class onboard catering. Pair with a Skywards Gold or Platinum status if you fly regularly.
Qatar Airways
The Qsuite remains the best business class on the planet. Doha hub is excellent. Cabin service consistently world class. Privilege Club status is harder to earn but holds value.
Etihad Airways
The Residence remains the most luxurious private cabin in commercial aviation. The new A350 cabins are excellent. Abu Dhabi pre clearance for US travel is a serious advantage for North American flyers.
Singapore Airlines
The benchmark for service, especially the A380 Suites and the Long Haul Business Class. KrisFlyer is a strong loyalty programme with generous Star Alliance redemptions.
Cathay Pacific
Outstanding cabin crew, excellent business class and the new Aria Suite on the Boeing 777 9 are best in class. Hong Kong hub increasingly relevant again.
ANA and Japan Airlines
Both Japanese carriers consistently rank at the top globally for soft product. The First Class on ANA's 777 300ER and JAL's A350 are excellent. Tokyo connection options have improved.
Turkish Airlines
The widest route network in the world. Business Class catering is consistently among the best. Istanbul hub is excellent.
Swiss, Lufthansa First and ITA Airways
Strong European choices. Lufthansa First remains a quietly excellent product, especially the dedicated First Class Terminal in Frankfurt. ITA has rebuilt the legacy Alitalia network with new aircraft.
Air France La Première and KLM
Air France's La Première is one of the most refined first class products in the world, especially the Paris ground experience.
Delta and United
Top of the US carriers. Delta One Suites and United Polaris are dependable. Star Alliance and SkyTeam redemptions on partners often beat the metal carrier itself.
Saudia and Riyadh Air (new)
Saudia continues to upgrade. Riyadh Air begins commercial operations in 2026 with promise of a new premium long haul standard.
How to think about loyalty in 2026
Pick one alliance based on your home hub. From Dubai, Emirates Skywards plus Etihad Guest covers most needs. From London, BA Executive Club plus Virgin Flying Club. From the US, choose between Delta SkyMiles and United MileagePlus.
